Seether is back this year, releasing new music from their ninth studio album, The Surface Seems So Far, set to be released this coming Friday. Long-time fans of Seether are used to seeing their albums go gold or platinum and feature several chart-topping hits. After listening to this album, I get the feeling that it will be no different. This album has everything Seether fans could want; it’s tough, creative, emotional, and reminds you of why Seether is one of the best and most successful rock bands of the last couple of decades.

They open the new album with their first released single, “Judas Mind”, which definitely gives you the usual rhythmic and heavy-footed sound that old fans have come to expect. It then jumps right into their second single, “Illusion”, with more thick, heavy, heart-pounding beats and mesmerizing harmonies.  Probably my favorite track on this album, “Lost All Control”, has really cool guitar riffs through the verses then breaks into a heavy and harmonious chorus and really lets you feel the emotions of the song. “Dead on the Vine” has more of the same, with some very strong, visceral lyrics that really pack a punch. After all the heavy, gut-wrenching songs that fill this album, they round it out with “Regret”, with some tough, hard-felt lyrics that I’m sure many fans can relate to.

Simplistic yet powerful, soft and light, right into heavy rhythms and deep, screaming vocals, with straightforward and harsh lyrics. This whole album is sure to give any fan a good series of goosebumps. It reminds me of the Seether of the early 2000s as their recognition and fame rose. I can envision many of these tracks topping charts all over the world. This album is something you’re going to want in your collection. I can’t wait to get the chance to hear these songs live during their upcoming tour supporting the new album. Go get the album, go see their show, hell, go buy their album at their show, I promise it’ll be worth it.
