Ice Nine Kills is arguably one of the most interesting bands in the alternative and heavy music scene. In 2018, they released their well-received fifth studio album, The Silver Scream. An attempt at a new niche, the long-time fans of horror movies made songs for each of their favorite films, such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, SAW, and more. It’s their highest scoring album on Rate Your Music, and polarized the scene.

After the release, they saw incredible reception, including a considerable #29 on the Billboard 200 – a difficult feat for heavy metal bands. A mix of powerful showmanship and theatrics, slathered in blood and grizzle, The Silver Scream was an incredible release, and an exciting turning point for the band.

Following a Deluxe re-release of The Silver Scream – there was a lot of options for the next step for the band. With many of the big classics out of the way, would Ice Nine Kills continue on the path of metalifying their favorites? Would they try something new?

On July 9th, 2021, our questions had some answers.

Hip To Be Scared ft. Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach

“True to horror franchise tradition, there is always a sequel…”The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood” follows in the bloody footsteps of its predecessor, paying tribute to 13 more of the most gruesome tales to ever grace the silver screen. In this latest INK offering, the last album and video series is portrayed as a work of fiction. The new story line thrusts the band into a brutal “real world” slaying. The only traces of the crime are 13 songs left behind by the suspected killer…

We can’t wait to share this next chapter with you, and to welcome you to the sinister state of mind that will soon be known the world over as, “Horrorwood”.

The first stop on the tour is 1980’s New York City’s “greed is good” scene, where a certain hot shot investment banker has a rather violent dirty secret…”

– Spencer Charnas, frontman, Ice Nine Kills

What’s Next for Ice Nine Kills?

Even the most famous horror franchises had some sequels that fell short in audiences. Others ended up making successful ten-plus part film series. Will Ice Nine Kills’ sixth album and sequel to their most successful album to date continue that trajectory?

With such a powerful debut single, Hip to Be Scared, we’re expecting a bone-chilling continuation of the Silver Scream series. And was there ever a good horror sequel that didn’t entertain a promising trilogy?

My best guess – this record will chart well and have some absolutely killer (get it?) tracks on it – fueling an incredible tour and series of festival dates this fall. We’ll probably see the trilogy completed in 2023. With a taste for blood, I can only hope that they’ll get the success they need to write, produce, and act in their own horror movie before 2025.

Bands like Ice Nine Kills that are finding new ways to define the heavy genre and reaching new audiences are what earn new ears (and eyes) in the music scene.

We’re excited for October 15th when The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood gets to be released – a perfect pairing to go along with the release of Halloween Kills.

Buckle up and pre-save Ice Nine Kills’ upcoming album here – like your life depends on it.
